Humanitarian concerns

Improving the yield of marginal farm land or bringing interdicted farm land back in to food production is a major challenge in many countries, for a farmer improving the soil condition and that of the seed bed by destoning gives higher crop yields.

Leveling the grade of marginal farm land to reduce soil erosion and improve crop production is an extremely labour intensive undertaking for poor farmers, the separation and transportation of the stones and rocks necessary to build the stone retaining walls for the terraces is currently done by hand.

Many people do not have access to mechanized resources to clear or improve their land, what is needed is a relatively simple machine that is easy to operate and maintain in a field environment.
